Enable SNMP on Cisco UCS (CIMC/UCS Manager)

Cisco UCS servers expose hardware health through CIMC on standalone boxes, or centrally through UCS Manager on a managed chassis.

What you'll need

  • Administrator access to CIMC or UCS Manager
  • A Linivo sensor with network access to the CIMC management IP
1

Standalone servers: enable SNMP in CIMC

In the CIMC web UI, go to Admin > Communication Services > SNMP and turn it on, setting a community string or SNMPv3 user the same way as any other BMC.

2

Managed chassis: enable it once in UCS Manager

For blades under UCS Manager, SNMP is configured centrally under Admin > Communication Management > SNMP rather than per-blade, and applies fleet-wide.

3

Add each server as a device in Linivo

Standalone CIMC servers are added individually by IP. For a managed chassis, add UCS Manager's own IP as one polling target for chassis-level health, then add each blade's service-profile IP separately for per-blade metrics.
