Enable SNMP on pfSense or OPNsense

Both open-source firewall platforms bundle Net-SNMP and expose the same toggle under Services in their web UI.

What you'll need

  • Administrator access to the pfSense or OPNsense web UI

Open Services > SNMP

In the web UI, go to Services > SNMP and check Enable to start the daemon; both platforms use this same menu structure.

Set a non-default read community

Change the community string from the default before saving, especially if the firewall's management interface is reachable from more than a single trusted host.

Add the device in Linivo

Both platforms report standard interface and system health through Net-SNMP's core MIBs, plus pfSense/OPNsense-specific state table and firewall rule-hit counters.
