Enable SNMP on an HPE iLO 5

Turn on the SNMP agent in iLO 5 so Linivo can read HPE ProLiant hardware health without installing agents on the host OS.

What you'll need

  • Administrator access to the iLO 5 web console
  • A Linivo sensor with network access to the iLO's dedicated management port
https://10.20.0.22/ Information iLO Settings Security Network Management SNMP Settings HPE iLO 5 web console SNMP Enabled SNMPv1 Traps Disabled SNMPv3 Enabled Read Community public Trap Port 162 ● Prefer SNMPv3 here — v1 traps are unauthenticated and unencrypted.
1

Open SNMP Settings

In the iLO 5 web console, go to Management > SNMP Settings. SNMP is disabled by default on a fresh iLO.

2

Enable SNMP and choose a version

Turn on SNMP, and prefer SNMPv3 over v1/v2c where your fleet supports it: iLO's default v1 trap behavior is unauthenticated, which most security teams won't allow on a management network.

3

Add the device in Linivo, using the iLO's dedicated NIC

Point Linivo at the iLO's own management IP, not the host's production IP. That separation is exactly why out-of-band health data keeps reporting even if the host OS is hung or powered off.
